Govt allowing mass legal migration from India dramatically exacerbating the housing crisis for private buyers, shifting demographics of whole neighbourhoods, says top estate agent

It is estimated by the Irish-India Council that there are well over 90,000 Indians living in Ireland. The 2022 census showed a 170% increase in the number of Indian nationals living in Ireland compared to the 2016 census.

The massive influx of Indians into Ireland is now dramatically exacerbating the already unprecedented housing crisis in the country with whole estates of new-build homes being bought by Indian migrants, often in cash.

The Liberal spoke with an estate agent in Dublin who did not want to be identified for fear of backlash. She told us:
“It’s beginning to get out of control with the Indian migrants. We have an office outside Dublin and these people, mostly professionals, are coming to our office with offers of cash. They are not negotiating on price, they’re ready to buy there and then.”

“It’s great for us, obviously, but it’s a big problem for Irish people trying to compete, especially when they’re trying to get a mortgage and a deal”.

It is estimated that India has overtaken China as the most populous nation on earth at 1.41 billion people and it looks like a significant portion have chosen Ireland as their destination. Most migrants from India enter legally through our lax immigration system.

With the indigenous Irish population set to become a minority as the government continues to allow the Third World to stream into our little island, legally and illegally, will Indians become the new majority ethnic group in Ireland in generations to come?
