Govt Chief Whip Hildegarde Naughton admitted having “tried cannabis in her 20s”, but said the drug was not “for her”, reports RTE.
The TD, who is also the Minister of State in the Department of Health, formally spoke after inaugurating the Citizens’ Assembly on Drugs yesterday.
The 45-yr-old TD confirmed that she has not taken any illegal drugs since she was in her 20s.
Minister of State for the Department for Enterprise Neale Richmond said he too smoked cannabis when he was younger, but it was in the Netherlands.
Justice Minister Simon Harris said this morning that recreational drug use was very widespread.
Mr Harris said people should be aware of their links to mafia crime and the corruption they have caused in certain communities, reports RTE.
He said he was unaware of illegal drug use at Leinster House, but that if anyone had any information they should tell the Gardai, reports RTE.
