More than half a million travellers are expected to move through Dublin Airport over the upcoming June bank holiday weekend as the summer travel rush begins, reports Breaking News.
A total of around 503,000 passengers are forecast to arrive and depart over the four-day period from Friday to Monday, with both holidaymakers and tourists contributing to the surge in traffic, reports Breaking News.
Many Irish residents are also expected to take advantage of the long weekend for short European breaks or to visit friends and family abroad, while demand is especially strong on routes to warmer destinations as peak holiday season gets underway, reports Breaking News.
Sunday is projected to be the busiest day, with approximately 131,000 passengers expected to pass through the airport, potentially surpassing Dublin Airport’s previous single-day record of 130,427 set in August 2025, reports Breaking News.
The airport is also set to see increased long-haul movement linked to the upcoming FIFA World Cup period, with fans from countries including England, Scotland and across Europe travelling via Dublin’s transatlantic connections despite Ireland not qualifying, reports Breaking News.
This weekend will also see the Qatar national team depart Dublin following a training camp and a friendly match in Ireland, travelling on a specially liveried aircraft ahead of the tournament, which is expected to attract aviation enthusiasts to airport viewing points, reports Breaking News.
Dublin Airport spokesperson Graeme McQueen said the busy period marks the real start of the summer travel peak, noting that daily passenger numbers are expected to remain above 100,000 throughout the season, reports Breaking News.
He added that while terminals will be busy, operations are expected to remain smooth, with passengers having access to expanded retail and dining options, including new outlets recently opened across both terminals, reports Breaking News.
McQueen also highlighted the broader economic benefit of the surge in travel, saying the influx of visitors will support hotels, restaurants and tourism businesses across Ireland at the start of the busy summer period, reports Breaking News.
Passengers are being reminded that updated security screening rules now allow liquids and electronics to remain in hand luggage at Dublin Airport, though travellers are advised to check regulations at their destination airports, as requirements may differ, reports Breaking News.
Travelers are also being advised to arrive at least two hours before short-haul departures and three hours before long-haul flights to allow sufficient time for check-in and security processing, reports Breaking News.
