Happy Europe Day: Ireland could have a new Bank Holiday under new EU proposals

Irish workers could very well have a new Bank Holiday to look forward to in the near future as the European Union are considering making a new public Bank Holiday in May.

According to Euractiv, the new bank holiday if passed would fall on the Monday after May 9th in order to celebrate the already known Europe Day.

Although Europe Day is celebrated by EU institutions, it is not technically a public holiday.

It is believed a number of MEP’s have backed the idea to make Europe Day a public holiday across the entire block as it would help build stronger relationships amongst EU citizens.

The new bank holiday could come into effect sooner rather than later as number of MEP’s will look to discuss the idea once again in February before putting it to a vote.
