
Following an increase in violence in the area, the Tánaiste declared that all Irish peacekeepers in Lebanon are “safe,” reports Breaking News.
In the most intense gunfight since the truce with the Lebanese militant organisation Hezbollah, Israel attacked Lebanon in reprisal for missiles that were aimed at Israel.
Earlier, Hezbollah denied involvement for an incident in which rockets were fired into Israel from Lebanon, reports Breaking News.
Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Harris urged “all sides” to exercise caution.
In a statement, Mr Harris said: “Deeply concerned about the latest escalation in violence and tensions between Israel and Lebanon. I can confirm that Irish peacekeepers at Unifil are safe. I am grateful to them for all they do as peacekeepers. It is absolutely vital now that all sides show restraint,” reports Breaking News.
