Following a dismal debate performance, prominent Democrats on Sunday ruled out the prospect of unseating US President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee and urged party members to instead concentrate on the ramifications of a second Donald Trump administration, reports Breaking News.
Democratic leaders sharply rejected demands for their party to select a younger presidential candidate for the election on November 5th, following days of hand-wringing over Mr. Biden’s lacklustre night on stage facing Trump, reports Breaking News.
On Sunday, Mr. Biden, 81, was cuddling up with family members at the presidential retreat at Camp David.
According to those familiar with the matter, Mr. Biden’s family was pressuring him to continue running and winning. This information was reported by the New York Times.
“The unfortunate truth is that Biden should withdraw from the race, for the good of the nation he has served so admirably for half a century,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said in an editorial on Sunday. “The shade of retirement is now necessary for President Biden,” reports Breaking News.
Since Thursday, there have been constant calls for Mr. Biden to resign. According to a CBS post-debate poll, the percentage of Democrats who think he shouldn’t be running for president has increased by ten points, from 36% in February to 46% now.
