According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the family of an Irishman who passed away while vacationing in Spain is receiving consular support, reports RTE.
Early Tuesday morning, Waterford City resident Michael Grant, 45, unexpectedly became unwell while on vacation in Majorca with friends and family.
He came from a well-known family, worked as a physiotherapist, and was active in several local sports teams, such as Mount Sion GAA and St. Joseph’s AFC.
He was the one who started St. Joseph’s juvenile academy, reports RTE.
It is thought that Mr. Grant’s body is undergoing a post-mortem investigation in Majorca. The local Civil Guard is looking into the death, but it’s not thought to be suspicious in any manner.
Mr. Grant, who was born on Morrisson’s Road in Waterford, moved to the Hillview neighbourhood with his family. He is survived by his parents, as well as other family members and friends, together with his wife Leanne and daughters Kayley, Niamh, Shay, and Sofia.
The St. Joseph’s AFC called Michael Grant “a beloved friend” and his passing a “devastating loss” in a statement.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, consular assistance is being provided and the matter is being monitored, reports RTE.
