Harris: “Oireachtas committee’s ten year plan for the health system will finally take the politics out of health once and for all”

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has said the Oireachtas committee’s final report which outlines a ten year plan for the healthcare system in Ireland, could finally take the politics out of health once and for all.

Mr Harris who commended the report also said the latest plan could completely change the landscape and improve the Irish health system for the better over the next decade.

Under the new proposals there could be free GP visits for all, whilst the waiting lists at public hospitals will be cut to a minimum of 12 weeks. It will also see private care eliminated from public hospitals.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday Minister Harris said: “I firmly believe that this is the last chance of this generation to get this right and to take the politics out of health.”

“This report is the culmination of a year-long process of unprecedented cross-party collaboration, dialogue and engagement. I am delighted that the report has reached political consensus and support.”
