With Donald Trump and Kamala Harris awaiting the results of a very tight and momentous campaign, millions of Americans are casting ballots in a presidential election marked by drama and uncertainty, reports RTE.

The outcome, which might happen quickly or over the course of many days, would either make Ms. Harris the nation’s first female president or give Mr. Trump a stunning comeback that will shock the whole globe.

After an intense campaign, polls suggest that Republican former president Trump, 78, and Democratic vice president Harris, 60, may be headed for a photo finish.

When President Joe Biden withdrew from the campaign in July, Ms. Harris entered the race late and dramatically, while Mr. Trump has survived two assassination attempts and a criminal conviction, reports RTE.

Both candidates made a last-ditch effort to win over the remaining undecided voters as tens of millions of voters were anticipated to cast votes today, on top of the 83 million who had previously cast early ballots.

“We must complete it. Ms. Harris, who had previously cast her ballot by mail, told Atlanta station WVEE-FM that today is election day and that everyone should go out and participate, reports RTE.

Her opponent, she said, was “full of vengeance.” He has a lot of complaints. Everything revolves around him.

Donald Trump said that he felt “very confident” and that he wanted to be “very inclusive” while casting his ballot in the Florida area close to his Mar-a-Lago home.

However, he expressed worries about the number of votes, which heightened suspicions that he might reject the outcome.

“If it’s a fair election, I would be the first one to acknowledge it,” he said, reports RTE.

In addition to declaring that he would not run for office again in 2028, Mr. Trump has recently made several unfounded accusations of election fraud and stated that he should “never have left” the White House in 2021.

Voters lined up around the nation, including in Black Mountain, North Carolina, where the polling place resembled a temporary tent because of recent floods and storm damage, reports RTE.

Erie, a crucial city in Pennsylvania’s battlefield, also saw long lines.

After voting for Harris at an elementary school, 46-year-old Marchelle Beason told AFP, “There are a lot more people here than there were in the previous election.”

“We’re so divided right now, and she’s about peace. And everything that her opponent has to say is really negative,” she added, reports RTE.
