Harris says a review of University Hospital Waterford mortuary is needed in order to see how it operates

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has said that a review of the conditions at University Hospital Waterford mortuary is needed in order to see how it operates.

According to RTÉ News, the Health Minister is keen to hold the review following claims that bodies were left decomposing on trolleys in the mortuary’s corridors.

Harris comments come as the go-ahead was given to begin the tendering process for a new mortuary at the hospital.

Minister Harris said a review should take place as questions need to be answered.

He also thanked consultants for raising their concerns over the conditions at the mortuary.

The Health Minister said a new mortuary is a must but in the short term a new refrigeration facility will be put in place on Friday.
