The Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris has said that the recent Oireachtas Golf society event was stomach punch to everyone who sacrificed so much but reiterated that the Irish people will continue to show leadership when others did not.
In a number tweets following the revelation that a number high profile politicians and other figures attended a dinner event in Clifden on Wednesday, Harris said what occurred was the wrong to do.
In one tweet Harris said: “The Oireachtas golf dinner should clearly not have proceeded. It was absolutely the wrong thing to do and a stomach punch to every one in this country who has sacrificed so much.”
Meanwhile in a follow up tweet the former Health Minister said: “The people of Ireland will continue to show leadership even if others did not. You have gotten our country so far. We are angry & annoyed & feel let down. How could we not! But we won’t forget what we have to do for our families & our community and we’ll keep doing it. Stay safe.”
