Harris: “The Taoiseach is owed the right to choose when to step down as his hard work rate shows that everything he does is in the national interest”

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has responded to claims that suggest the long protracted case regarding the current Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny stepping down has interfered with Government business, by saying such claims are ludicrous.

Mr Harris who was speaking this morning claimed that the Government is more focused than ever and that the question of Mr Kenny’s resignation is more than speculation that is heightened by the media as each passing day goes by.

The Health Minister also came to the defence of Mr Kenny you saying that the Taoiseach has the full right to choose when he wants to step down.

Although Mr Harris did say he fully expects the Taoiseach to clear up his future once and for all at tomorrow’s parliamentary party meeting.

Mr Harris explained: “I think it’s an interesting source of media and , at times, political speculation, but I expect the Taoiseach to bring significant clarity to this matter tomorrow.

“I think the Taoiseach is absolutely owed the space to make the right decision, and you can see from his very hard work rate, which has always been the way of the Taoiseach, that he is continuing to do everything he possibly can in the national interest.”
