Harry, the charismatic gorilla that recently passed away at Dublin Zoo, died from a stroke

Harry, the 29-year-old silverback gorilla in Dublin Zoo, died suddenly on May 29. Post mortem results show that the animal suffered a stroke, after showing signs of being unwell four days earlier.

A statement released by Dublin Zoo said: “The team at Dublin Zoo would like to thank everyone for their best wishes during the sad time since Harry, our silverback gorilla, died.

“Harry showed signs of being unwell on Wednesday May 25.

“Despite the best of care from our animal care and veterinary teams, Harry passed away on Sunday morning May 29.

“The post mortem has shown that Harry suffered a stroke.”

Harry arrived at Dublin Zoo from Frankfurt Zoo on September 23, 1995, when he was just nine years old.

He will be sadly missed by zoo staff and public alike.
