In what can only be described as utterly ludicrous the Communications Minister, Denis Naughten is said to be putting together a plan that will see practically everyone in the country liable for a TV licence – even if you don’t have a television.
The move comes after some 32,000 homes are said to have no physical television in their home, but the government believe these people are accessing the cash-stapped RTE from their tablet or phone.
The head of RTE last week mooted a possible doubling of the licence fee from €160 to a staggering €320 but Naughten’s sneaky move would see that increase and more if everyone was forced to pay to keep the state broadcaster a float.
What’s your thoughts on the proposals?
