Have you noticed? Consumer prices rose by almost 3% in September




Consumer prices increased by 2.7 per cent in September, up from 2.0 per cent in August, according to the latest data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), reports Breaking News.

This represents the highest inflation rate recorded since March 2024, when the annual increase stood at 2.9 per cent.

Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) – which monitors changes in the cost of standard goods and services – was slightly higher at 2.8 per cent, reports Breaking News.

The most significant yearly price hikes were observed in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages category at 4.7 per cent, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 3.7 per cent. Meanwhile, Furnishings and Household Equipment was the only sector to see a yearly decline, dropping by 0.6 per cent.

On a month-to-month basis, prices fell by 0.2 per cent between August and September, reports Breaking News.

Transport saw the largest monthly decrease at -1.8 per cent, followed by Recreation and Culture at -1.6 per cent. These were partially offset by price increases in Clothing and Footwear, which rose by 2.4 per cent, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, which increased by 0.5 per cent.

The most notable monthly price drops in September 2025 were recorded in Transport (1.8%) and Recreation & Culture (1.6%).

The fall in Transport costs was mainly driven by a reduction in airfares, reports Breaking News.
