He speaks for Ireland? Harris vows to ‘stand with Ukraine’ in battle against the Russian invasion

In addition to declaring that he is eager for Ukraine to join the EU, the Taoiseach promised to “stand with Ukraine” in their fight against the Russian invasion.

Simon Harris noted that on this day of Ukrainian independence, the country’s struggle for independence represents a global defence of liberty and democracy. He said that Ukraine is a member of the European Union and looked forward to that day.

“On behalf of the people of Ireland, I extend my warmest congratulations to the Government and people of Ukraine on your Independence Day,” he stated in a video that was uploaded on X, reports The Mirror.

“Thirty-three years ago Ukraine declared its independence, today you inspire the world with your unwavering commitment to defending it. In determining Ukraine’s right to determine its own future you are standing up for freedom and democracy right across the world. The people of Ireland are proud to stand with you and will do so until you prevail. You are part of our European family and we look forward to the day when Ukraine takes its place as a member of the European Union,” he added, reports The Mirror.

“I would especially like to extend my very best wishes to the thousands of Ukrainians who have made Ireland your refuge and your home. You are welcome and we greatly value the contribution you make. I wish the people of Ukraine continued strength, bravery and success. Slava Ukraine,” reports The Mirror.

The Taoiseach also said that more cost-of-living adjustments will be made prior to Christmas. For the third year in a row, he revealed, there would be several one-time payments, which will be made before Christmas.

He said that the State can utilise the €2 billion gain from the sale of its stake in Allied Irish Bank for a variety of infrastructure initiatives, including the construction of homes. Additionally, he accused “official Ireland” of being indifferent to the migrant tent encampments in Dublin and said that they would not be allowed, reports The Mirror.
