One of the country’s most successful mountaineers died Monday night while climbing Mount Annapurna, the tenth highest peak in the world, in Nepal.

According to the expedition organisers, Noel Hanna, who climbed Everest 10 times from Ko Down, died at Camp IV after returning from the summit, reports The Mirror.

Annapurna is a mountain in the Annapurna mountain range in Gandaki province in north-central Nepal.

Noel Hannah, the first person from Ireland to climb K2 in the winter season, “breathed his last in Camp IV last night” according to Mingma Sherpa, President of Seven Summit Treks, reports The Mirror.

According to the Himalayan Times, organizers said efforts are being made to return his body to the base camp.

Kerry-based Irish climber and mountaineer Pat Falvey confirmed his death this morning, saying: “It is with great sadness and shock that it has been reported by The Himalayan Times that friend and climbing colleague Noel Hanna has died on returning from the summit of 8091 meter mountain Annapurna,” reports The Mirror.

Hannah and his wife Lynn were the only married couple in the world to successfully climb both sides of Mount Everest in 2009 and 2016.

Hannah has helped people all over the world scale some of the world’s most difficult mountains.

Mr Lawless, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Trinity College Dublin, was living a lifelong dream when he fell 500 meters while descending from a height of 8,300 meters in an area known as the Balcony.

He had ambitions to climb Everest before he turned 40.

An unsuccessful search for the popular professor was launched but was eventually called off after the public raised over €200,000 to fund it, reports The Mirror.
