The Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has recently revealed that he and the government fully plan to dismantle the Health Service Executive (HSE) within the next five years.
Mr Varadkar made the announcement earlier this afternoon were he said the entire project will take place over the the next five years as long the coalition is still in office after the next election. Mr Varadkar made the much expected announcement whilst he was addressing the annual conference of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) in Tullamore, Co Offaly this afternoon. However the Health Minister reiterated his current commitment to the HSE saying the current healthcare model is fit for purpose for the time being.
Mr Varadkar told the conference that his and the government’s aim is to expand the availability of affordable healthcare for everyone. Mr Varadkar said: “I am a strong believer in universal healthcare, by which I mean access to affordable healthcare for everyone in a timely manner. But the foundations have to be put in place first,”
