Health Minister Simon Harris has set himself up to be in the line of fire by Independent TD John Halligan, who has today seen his wishes of a second cardiac unit at Waterford Hospital dashed by the minister’s assertions.
Minister Harris, going on a recommendation by Belfast-based NHS cardiologist Niall Herity, has today said that Waterford Hospital will have no additional cardiology unit built. However, he did also say that current cardiac services will be expanded to reduce waiting times.
Mr. Halligan had said that he would remove his support for the Government over the issue.
