The heartbroken father of Cliodhna Thornton, who fell to her death in a freak accident, requested that everyone in attendance at her funeral stand and hug one another.
Hundreds of mourners filled The Church of Mary Immaculate Queen to say their final goodbye to Cliodhna, from Barna, Co Galway.
Her heartbroken father Sean graciously thanked everyone for their support since the shocking tragedy.
Cliodhna was coming home from a night out with friends, when the doors of the van she was travelling in opened and she fell out.
Friend Aoife Burke, who was injured and hospitalised following the freak accident, attended the service on Thursday.
Elaine Scahill, cousin of Cliodhna, told mourners at the funeral mass that Cliodhna “knew who she was, what she wanted and was never afraid to follow her heart . . . she made sure she lived every moment to the fullest”.
