Heartbreaking: Hundreds of fans turn out to support Celine Dion and her family as they sadly lay her husband Rene Angelil to rest




In a heartbreaking week for singer Celine Dion and her family the Canadian superstar laid to rest her husband and long time partner Rene Angelil.

An emotional and grieving Dion and her family were joined by hundreds of fans, at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica to pay their final respects Mr Angelil.
Mr Angelil who was also Dion’s manager sadly passed away on January 14th aged 73, after a long battle with throat cancer. A grieving Dion arrived shortly before the ceremony began, along with her mother and her sons Rene-Charles, Nelson and Eddy.

The touching service was also broadcast on giant screens outside the Basilica ti hundreds of fans who came out in support of Dion and her family, the church was also the venue were the couple married in December 1994. On her arrival Dion entered the service surrounded by family and placed a single rose on her late husband’s casket before receiving comfort from her eldest child.

The tributes to Mr Angelil were lead by his adult son Patrick who gave an emotional eulogy in French paying homage to his father, he was then followed by Rene Charles. Dion also paid tribute to her late husband in which she credited Rene for making her career and being the love of her life. Dion wrote: ‘I understood that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony. The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him’.

Meanwhile Dion had also spent the previous day greeting fans and mourners at a public visitation at the same church. The service finished with Mr Angelil’s casket being taken to Montreal’s Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery.
