The ISPCA have issued an appeal to the public for information after a seriously injured dog was found tied to a sign post in Co Longford recently.

The appeal comes after the dog a German Shepard/Akita Cross breed was found chained to a sign post near the National Animal Centre.

It is understood the dog was sickeningly abandoned on a cold, wet and windy evening.

The ISPCA say the dog had sustained serious injuries with part of one its front legs missing.

They also say they have heartbreakingly made the decision to euthanise the dog on a humane basis.

Staff at the centre say the dog was left in excruciating pain from the injury.

Anyone with any information is being urged to contact the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline on 1890 515 515.
