Heartfelt tributes have been shared following the passing of a “wonderful, smart and talented” young primary school girl from County Dublin, reports The Mirror.
Jannah Shahzad, aged 12 and from Brookview in Tallaght, died peacefully at home on Thursday, surrounded by her beloved family.
A notice on RIP.ie honours Jannah as the “loving and devoted daughter to Katrina and Mohammad and adored sister of Kelly, Gerard, Daniyal and Ahmed,” reports The Mirror.
It also states, “Jannah will be forever loved and very sadly missed by her heartbroken family, mam, dad, sister, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, Kelly’s partner Craig, Gerard’s partner Alex, extended family especially in Pakistan, teachers and her many friends in St Thomas Senior School, the wider community of Brookview and neighbours,” reports The Mirror.
Jannah was in sixth class at St Thomas’ SNS in Jobstown, Tallaght. In a letter sent to parents on Friday, the school shared: “The school has experienced the sudden death of a student in our 6th Class. We are deeply saddened by this and our thoughts are with the family at this time.
“Our Critical Incident Team have met in response to this and we have put support structures in place to help your child cope with this tragedy.
“Although classes will continue as usual, I anticipate that the next few days will be difficult for everyone. If you would like any advice please contact the school,” reports The Mirror.
Principal John Rennick of St. Thomas’ SNS wrote a touching tribute online, describing Jannah as “a wonderful, smart, talented pupil who embodied what St Thomas’ SNS stands for.”
“She contributed to all aspects of school life, was admired and liked by everyone she met,” he added. “My sincere condolences at this heartbreaking time. Jannah will be sorely missed by all of us,” reports The Mirror.
Suzanne O’Reilly, Principal of St Thomas’ JNS Primary School, said: “On behalf of the staff and pupils of St Thomas’ JNS I offer our sincere condolences to Jannah’s parents, Katrina and Mohammad, and to her sister Kelly, brothers, Gerard, Daniyal and Ahmedand and all of her family. Our thoughts are with you all at this incredibly difficult time. We are thinking also of Jannah’s classmates, teacher and all our colleagues in St Thomas’ SNS. We remember Jannah with great fondness and affection from her time in the junior school. May Jannah rest in peace,” reports The Mirror.
Jannah, a skilled camogie player, played for St Mark’s GAA Club in Tallaght. Dublin Camogie extended their sympathies to her grieving family and confirmed that a minute’s silence would be held across all club matches this weekend in her memory.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we inform you of the tragic passing of one of St Marks U14’s players, Jannah Shahzad,” they said, reports The Mirror.
“On behalf of all in Dublin Camogie, we offer our sincere condolences on the tragic passing of Jannah. Our thoughts are with all of Jannah’s family and all her teammates in St Marks.
“As a mark of respect all Féile venues, all finals on Sunday, alongside all club games under the control of Dublin Camogie will observe a minutes silence before all games this weekend.
“Jannah will also be remembered at our national congress this weekend.”
Karl O Brien, Chairman of Dublin Camogie, honoured Jannah with these words: “On behalf of all in Dublin Camogie, I offer our sincere condolences on the passing of Jannah. Our thoughts are with all of Jannah’s family and all her teammates in St Marks. As chairman of Dublin Camogie and as a father of a young girl and boy it breaks my heart to hear of the passing of a young girl in our Camogie community. As a mark of respect all Féile venues in Dublin tomorrow, all finals on Sunday, alongside all club games under the control of Dublin Camogie will observe a minutes silence before all games this weekend. Jannah will also be remembered at our National congress taking place this weekend. Keeping you all in our thoughts,” reports The Mirror.
Jannah’s sudden passing has deeply affected the local community, with friends and loved ones expressing their sorrow through emotional tributes online.
One close friend wrote: “We all loved you and still do. You kind hearted soul. So many people loved you. RIP Jannah we miss you fly high. It’s so weird to walk to school and not see you here. You were such a sports fan and loved GAA so do I. You were perfect and you still are. Miss you gorgeous. You still watch your family from above RIP Jannah Shahzad,” reports The Mirror.
Cllr Alan Hayes, Deputy Mayor of South Dublin County Council, expressed: “My sincere condolences to all of Jannah’s family and friends. Across her schooling and sporting endeavours, it is clear how much of a positive impact Jannah has had on all who knew her. May her family and friends find all the love and strength they need in the times ahead. Rest in Peace,” reports The Mirror.
The mother of one of Jannah’s classmates said: “Absolutely heartbroken to hear of the passing of beautiful Jannah. Such a lovely kind & friendly girl. She will be terribly missed by all her school friends, Mr Mangans class won’t be the same without her. Jannahs family are in our thoughts,” reports The Mirror.
