Ireland have welcomed the arrival of 39 children from nuclear-ravaged Chernobyl who came to celebrate Christmas on our shores.
Families in Dublin, Louth, Meath, Kilkenny, Limerick, Mayo, Kilkenny, Cork, Kerry and Galway will all welcome and host the children for a well-deserved respite holiday.
Of the youths, some are orphans whilst others have been abandoned by struggling parents, unable to cope with their child’s disability.
They all hail from the remote region of Belarus – which to this day – remains extremely contaminated by the nuclear disaster of 1986.
The yearly holiday organised by Adi Roche, is a chance for the kids to enjoy life.
Adi said: “The Irish people have been reaching out to these children for 30 years and not only has their enthusiasm and kindness never wavered, it actually grows every year.”
