There were strong words on the final day of the Dáil before the Christmas break as the Tánaiste Joan Burton called a leading Sinn Féin TD “a bar-room brawler”.
It us believed that Ms Burton got into a heated exchange with Sinn Féin deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald over health policy, which resulted in strong heckling from Donegal TD Padraig McLochlainn. The abuse however all seemed to be a bit much for the Tánaiste who told him he was an absolute “disgrace”, Ms Burton went onto say: “We want to see more women in this Dáil precisely to avoid the kind of behaviour you have just indulged in.
Before adding: “A bar-room brawler, a bar-room brawler, You are a disgrace.”
