A weather warning for extreme temperatures is now in place for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon, Clare, Limerick, and Tipperary, where the thermometer is expected to reach highs of 28-29C.
Current indications show that the heatwave is likely to continue into next week.
