A man living in Drogheda but originally from Zimbabwe has appeared in court under accusations of using “forged” university degrees to get work.
According to LMFM, 39-year-old Nikiwe Dube appeared before Dublin District Court on an accusation that he falsified papers so he could work with vulnerable children and adults as a clinical psychologist.
LMFM reported that Dube’s home was searched by Gardai where they discovered a number of forged papers as well as a Garda stamp. It appeared that the man had been trying to claim that he had degrees from the University of Zimbabwe, but he was never a student at the university.
It was also reported by LMFM that Dube’s defence solicitor said that he had come to Ireland in 2018 as a refugee and it was not suggested by Gardai that he had forged his identity.
The Judge agreed to grant bail but only on a number of conditions, including the provision of a €20,000 bond.
