Secondary school teacher Enoch Burke has been granted until next week by the High Court to submit his arguments regarding how the fines for contempt of court, imposed upon him, should be enforced.
These fines stem from Burke’s refusal to comply with a court order to stay away from Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath, where he was previously employed. His disregard for the court’s directive has led to him accumulating fines, and the school’s legal team has suggested that the Attorney General might consider seizing Burke’s assets to enforce these penalties.
Burke’s defiance continued as he returned to the school after the Christmas break, despite the court order. This has resulted in ongoing legal proceedings, with the court now looking into options for ensuring compliance with its orders.
The High Court’s latest session on this issue indicates a move towards potentially harsher enforcement measures if Burke does not adhere to the court’s decisions.
The case is scheduled to return to court in February for further proceedings.
