He’ll never call a girl a boy: Enoch Burke has been thrown back into Mountjoy

Enoch Burke is back in Mountjoy tonight as he remains in contempt of court. His family were in the Four Courts but were not allowed into the actual courtroom.

Instead, they stayed outside where Enoch started to state a lot of legal jargon to which the Judge said it wasn’t the time or place and eventually sent him back to Mountjoy.

Burke is challenging a civil action brought by the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), which is seeking access to “ambient” audio recordings as part of an investigation into the conduct of Gardaí officers during the incident that led to the conviction of student lawyer Simeon Burke.

As part of the investigation, Gsoc has applied for “ambient recording”, which records what happens in the Supreme Court if the main digital audio recording (DAR) system used during court sessions is turned off.

However, the ambient recorder operates both before and after the DAR system is activated when the court is not in session, which raises the question for the Court of Appeal whether it had jurisdiction to hear the application at all.
