A dog has been hailed as a hero after it amazingly managed to rescue a newborn baby which was buried alive in wasteland in the Chinese district of Chongqing.
The remarkable story came to light after the dogs owner, Yang Jiali, discovered that her dog had been gone missing from her back yard.
However on her short search Yang found the heroic dog frantically digging through the dirt a mere distance away.
Speaking to local media a emotional Yang explained that she was amazed to find the infant wrapped in a piece of cloth after she went over she to see what her dog was digging for.
Although the one month old baby was rushed to a clinic in Wutan Town in the suburban Jiangjin District with a slow heart rate and a low body temperature, doctors say the infant is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say an investigation is ongoing surrounding the infants burial but they say they believe the newborn may have been buried after his parents thought he had passed away.
