The term “hero” is thrown around the place loosely these days, but the Captains and Crews of Le Niamh, Le Eithne and Le Samuel Beckett certainly deserve the title.
On tonight’s Late Late Show, members of all three ships spoke about their Mediterranean experiences which saw them save and rescue literally thousands of refugees fleeing a war inflicted Syria.
In what only can be described as pure heroism, the crews braved rough seas to tackle the migrant crisis.
They helped transfer thousands of people stranded to Central Europe with the aim of seeking a better, safer and happier life.
More fleets will be making their way to the Mediterranean at the start of Spring.
