High winds in the region of 150km/h force staff at the Cliffs of Moher to close the tourist attraction this weekend




It has been reported this evening that the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare have been evacuated and closed for the weekend due to dangerously high winds.

The world famous cliffs which has a large number of visitors each day has been closed to the public because of severe winds gusting up in the region of 150 kilometres an hour. It is understood Staff at the major tourist attraction say they they followed procedures and set regulations to deal with the severe weather conditions and this afternoon enforced their highest safely alert “red protocol”.

It is expected the cliffs will remain closed as more Gale force winds and heavy rain have been forecast for the rest of the weekend in Clare.
