email-or-e-mail-1243632

Irish Water is warning of an email hoax that is being sent under their name and which aim to get personal information from its customers.

The email explains that the company is performing an annual account manteinance. The email has two links, which are pretending to send you to the company’s official website, but in fact lead to a third party.

Even though the links have been disabled, Irish Water warns not to click on them or replying to the email.

This is not the first time an Irish company’s name has been used for a fishing scam. Similar fraud attempts were made under scamers pretending to contact customers of Electric Ireland and from others pretending to be from Revenue Commisioners.

The company highlighted that they’d never ask for sensitive financial information via email, so the best thing to do if you receive this email is to delete immediately.

If you already replied to an email and believe you might have fall for the scam, change your passwords, contact your bank or service provider, check your statement for unauthorized charges and contact the authorities.
