Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer is not directly talking about increasing restrictions, such as lockdowns, but if you read between the lines of what he’s saying that you’d have to come to the conclusion that it’s not very far off.
Asked whether or not people we could just let covid rip through the country and get on with things, Holohan said that wasn’t NPHET’s approach and it’s not the way they’re going to do things, even though many people would be of that opinion at this stage.
We don’t want to be in a situation that we have to be in a position to make changes or consideration to what further restrictions will be needed.
Holohan said that he expresses hope and optimisation in the recommendations that they’re making to the public and to society, to government, the collective effect of all of those will be to change the experience that we’re having.
But if that isn’t the case, he said, we can’t predict that, then we might have to give consideration to what it is we might recommend.
