Holohan: It’s not looking good – We just can’t say whether there’ll be a lockdown or not

Ireland’s senior public health official has warned the country could face 200,000 cases of Covid-19 in December unless the course of the disease is changed.

Dr. Tony Holohan offered a dire perspective on the worst-case scenario that could occur within a few weeks if the virus outbreak is not stopped.

It comes because the Taoiseach and the Minister of Health refused to rule out the possibility of further lockdowns before Christmas.

Michael Martin announced new plans to halt the spiral of reported coronavirus cases across the country, but added that the situation will be monitored over the coming weeks but new measures cannot be ruled out.

He added that in its communication to the government, NPHET added a warning that further action might be needed but did not specify when the lockdown will happen.
