Last week, there was growing speculation that Tony Holohan would join the race for the Presidency, reports Midwest Radio.
The former Chief Medical Officer had said he felt highly encouraged by the latest polling data.
At that time, recent polls showed Fine Gael’s Mairead McGuinness is currently in the lead with 29 per cent support, reports Midwest Radio.
She’s followed by Independent Catherine Connolly, who so far remains the only official candidate.
Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald came next in the rankings, though she has yet to confirm her intentions, reports Midwest Radio.
However, Holohan has ruled himself out and McGuinness has dropped out.
Holohan is said to be very happy that he won’t have to face heavy questions from the public over his handling of the pandemic.
Many people are saying that Bertie Ahern is likely to get going in the race over the next week or so.
