Holohan’s back: CMO says Ireland’s on a cliff edge as to whether we can reopen due to high case numbers

The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has returned to his role after the passing of his late wife.

Holohan is back giving the daily NPHET media briefing, taking over from Dr Ronan Glynn.

The last time Holohan came back from a break, Ireland quickly went back into lockdown.

He’s now saying that the trend appears to be going in the right direction but that the country is on a cliff edge due to rising case numbers.

He said that NPHET will monitor the vaccine rollout and case numbers and will meet with the government next week to determine what they’re allowed to do in relation to reopening, it could possibly be delayed or pushed back.

Many people on social media now feel that the draconian lockdown imposed on the Irish public is far too much.
