Hope in sight: Italy coronavirus deaths soar yet again but the number of confirmed cases fall with hopes the lockdown could soon end




The number of coronavirus deaths in Italy rose sharply on Monday but new infections declined, giving hope that the country’s lockdown could end at some point soon.

On Monday, 636 COVID-19 deaths were registered, with a total of 16,523 cases in Italy now, but the number of new cases increased by 3,599 to 132,547, the smallest daily increase since the 17th of March.

There was another 100 deaths on Monday over Sunday’s figures. Before Monday, the daily increases since the 17th March were in the range of between 4,050 and 6,557.
