A babysitter in the US state of Ohio could end up facing 17 years behind bars after she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter after she fatally overdosed an eight-month-old boy with hayfever medication.
The woman at centre of the horrific crime that has sent shockwaves across the US Lori Conley, has been accused of child endangerment and evidence tampering after she allegedly gave the young child Haddix Mulkey an adult dose of the anti-allergin drug Bendadryl.
Ms Conley who pleaded guilty before Franklin County Court, is alleged to have carried out the horrifying act on May 13th.
According to reports stateside it is believed that the babysitter who was also caring for eight other young children at her Columbus home gave the infant the drug in order to make him sleep.
Although the 44-year-old child minder did immediately call 911 after she found baby Haddix unresponsive it was too late as the young infant had already slipped into coma before he sadly died a short time later in hospital.
Prosecutors in the case say Ms Conley’s actions were nothing but complete negligence that in turn caused grave endangerment to an innocent child, therefore we are pursuing the maximum sentence possible given the seriousness and the nature of the case which ultimately led to the death of little Haddix.
Ms Conley is due to be sentenced on September 5th.
