Three newborn babies and two adults have been seriously injured following a stabbing incident in New York.
According to reports in the US, one of the babies is in critical condition in hospital following the incident which occurred at an overnight nursery in Queens.
It is believed a 52-year-old woman armed with a butchers knife committed the stabbings which also left a man and a woman injured at approximately 4am local time.
Police investigating the incident say a three-day-old girl and a one-month-old girl were stabbed in the abdomen, whilst a 20-day-old girl suffered cuts on her ear, chin and lip during the violent attack.
They say one of the babies is in critical condition, whilst the other two are in serious but stable condition.
Meanwhile the two adults who were looking after the children also suffered stab wounds in the incident, but it is understood they are also in stable condition.
Police say the woman who is alleged to have carried out the attack was taken to hospital with self-harm injuries.
They added an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
