New Zealand has pulled all screenings of the film ‘Hotel Mumbai’ from cinemas in respect to the period of mourning the country is going through following last Friday’s terror attack which killed 50 people.
The film which is a documentary-style thriller is based on the 2008 Muslim terrorist attack in the Indian city of Mumbai which killed 165 people.
The nine attackers belonged to the Pakistani based Islamic terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba launched co-ordinated bomb and gun attacks on several locations before all were killed by Indian security forces.
The film was released in New Zealand the day before the Christchurch terror attack but has since been pulled from all cinemas until the end of the month.
Icon Film Distribution said the decision was made “out of respect for a country in mourning”.
