In yet another sad indictment of a failed government, three families are made homeless in the country every day.
Charity Focus Ireland has released figures saying that some 5,500 people, a third of them children, are currently without a home.
Mike Allen, director of advocacy, says that the new goverment has the onus to tackle the situation as a matter of urgency.
Mr. Allen said “There are no excuses for any more delays delivering effective action to help keep families and individuals in their homes.
“The Government – in particular Fine Gael – must learn from mistakes of previous governments and not allow this situation to drift with the cost of even more families becoming homeless.”
He added: “We are sending a clear warning that if the new Government does not act upon these recommendations quickly we will continue to see hundreds of families and individuals lose their homes.”
