Emergency services were alerted shortly after 12:20pm on Sunday following reports of a man in his 40s entering the water near Custom House Quay in Dublin.
Dublin Fire Brigade sent four units and a rescue boat to the scene, supported by an Irish Coast Guard helicopter.
The operation has since been stood down.
The man’s current location is unknown. Authorities believe that if he was unable to get out of the river himself, the strong current would have carried him downstream toward Dublin Bay.
