The Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy has come under increased pressure this week after Sinn Féin TD Eoin O’Broin questioned his ability to do his job.
In a scathing attack on Minister Murphy, the Sinn Féin TD accused the housing minister of manipulating the current homeless figures i order for them to remain under 10,000 people.
Speaking during an Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Mr O’Broin claimed that a number of Mis-categorisations had been on Mr Murphy’s part as he removed hundreds of families from the current list.
The Sinn Féin TD who also told the committee that he intends to get to the bottom of how the misinformation was published.
In a damning attack Mr O’Broin claimed that the housing minister did not know the difference between tenancy and emergency accommodation, or that he does know and he is deliberately letting hundreds of families being removed from the list.
It is understood Mr O’Broin’s comments come after a number of TD’s questioned the legitimacy of a homeless figures list that was published in March.
The list apparently showed that there were just over 9,000 people currently homeless in Ireland.
