Threshold, the national housing charity, is today calling for reform of the rent supplement scheme, and also for ‘rent certainty”.
According to the organization, current legislation contains loopholes, meaning some families living in rental properties could lose their shelter.
Threshold is looking for a strategy to cover rent supplement, deposit protection and minimum standards in rented accommodation.
CEO Bob Jordan claims the rent supplement does not reach anywhere near market rates.
Mr. Jordan has said that ‘rent supplement limits obviously need to be increased to reflect real market rents’.
