HSE boss says Ireland could be facing one of the worst winters in many years

The number of people who are getting treatment in intensive care units at facilities for Covid-19 has risen, with HSE manager Paul Reid saying that this is potentially going to be one of the most troublesome winters we’ve had for a very long time.

The department of Health said 93 people are being treated in the intensive care unit, which is up three from yesterday.

Reid said he was expecting perhaps the most difficult winter in years with covid putting severe strain onto an already overcrowded health service.

Speaking to RTE, Reid said: “It’s a real challenge for us, particularly as we head into winter, this is going to be probably one of the most difficult winters we faced for many years, so it is difficult for us.”
