The Chief Executive of the HSE Paul Reid has revealed that almost half of tests carried out in the past week were children.
Speaking to RTE, Reid confirmed that 45% of Covid-19 tests were in those aged 0 to 18.
However despite the high number of tests the Chief Executive of the HSE says its important that children remain in school.
Reid also said that the rate of transmission in schools is lower than that in the community.
