The Chief Executive of the HSE Paul Reid has said that it could take weeks and cost millions before the health service’s IT system is fixed.
Speaking to RTE, Reid said the attack was a serious criminal act and it could cost tens of millions to repair.
The HSE Chief went on to say that what is occurring now is a very significant rebuild and what has occurred will have consequences for patients throughout the week.
He added that the HSE will do whatever is necessary to protect patients and its services.
