The HSE have revealed that they will write to pharmaceutical companies to request they reduce the price if their prescription drugs.
It is understood the HSE have set out guidelines asking companies to consider introducing system which will see them pay lower prices for individual drugs and medicines they supply. The HSE’s proposal was given the go ahead after the Cabinet gave approval earlier this week.
It is believed that letters to be sent by the HSE on Friday would inform pharmaceutical companies that the current process provides 28 days for them to respond and make representations before final decisions are taken regarding reimbursement prices.
