It has been confirmed recently that the morning after pill will be made available free of charge without prescription to all women who hold Medical Cards.
The new scheme which will begin from July 1st, was announced by the Minister for Health Simon Harris this afternoon.
Speaking about the new scheme Minister Harris said that all women should have the automatic right to receive the pill over the counter without prescription as it is a necessary emergency treatment.
Mr Harris explain that the current protocols were completely “unfair and they posed barrier to timely treatment.”
He also said:”That all women, irrespective of their means, should have the same access to emergency contraception.”
